Expert: Russian LNG plants can satisfy 17% of global demand by '35

ST. PETERSBURG, Nov 29 (PRIME) – Russia’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants may total 110 million tonnes by 2035 under a realistic scenario, which will allow to cover up to 17% of global demand, Director for Research of company Implement Maria Belova said on Wednesday.

"Russia has announced large-scale plans for the development of the LNG industry. In a realistic scenario, by 2035, capacity of Russia’s LNG plants will reach 110 million tonnes, which will cover up to 17% of global demand," Belova said.

Currently, two LNG plants operate in Russia, Sakhalin-2 and Yamal LNG, which are to produce 30–31 million tonnes in 2023. The launch of Arctic LNG 2 and Baltic LNG with a capacity totaling 39 million tonnes, completion of projects Vladivostok LNG, Murmansky LNG and Obsky LNG amounting to 40 million tonnes overall will raise total capacity.

Russia's share on the global LNG market can reach almost 35% after the launch of Yakutsky LNG, Arctic LNG 1, Taimyr LNG, Kara LNG, Dalnevostochny LNG, and the extension of Sakhalin 2 with an overall capacity at 114 million tonnes, Belova said.
